Mentor Circle announced for New Hope Colony Artist Residency at Phillips’ Mill Foundation for the Arts

Posted

The women who have volunteered to serve on the first Mentor Circle for the newly launched New Hope Colony Artist Residency includes a diverse roster of trailblazers, including Najah Bazzy, Jessica Blank, Nanette Carter, Wendy Maruyama, Debbie Millman, Gina Nanni, Celine Mo, and others to be announced.
Citing the Sundance labs and New Inc as important touchstones, founding Creative Director and Artist Residency Director Katie Albert created a residency program that has at its heart a distinguished “circle of support.”
To accomplish this, residents receive a grant, along with a cadre of customized tools and support during the residency, followed by a pro-bono professional coach, a mentor and ongoing community.
The range of artists selected for the first cohort are women bound by a passion for honing their art, advancing their careers and navigating the issues women artists and artists of diversity face.
The experience began for each artist residency Fellow when she was selected by one member of PMFA’s inaugural Artist Residency Council (ARC), which includes Miya Ando, Malene Barnett, Deborah Burke, DeMane Davis, Leila Heller, Marilyn Minter, Rebecca Moses, Mira Nakashima-Yarnall, and Liesl Tommy.

Unique to the New Hope Colony Artist Residency, each Fellow was then invited to request a mentor of her choice – all were women and all embraced the opportunity to carry the Fellows further with pleasure.
The women who agreed to play this pivotal role are luminaries who have achieved success, accumulated wisdom and recognize that there is a need to pay those earnings forward.
Bazzy is an internationally recognized healer, humanitarian and interfaith leader. Blank is a writer, director, actor, story strategy consultant, and coach. Carter is an internationally recognized artist and a retired professor
Maruyama is a master woodwork artist and educator. Millman is a designer, author, educator and the host of the podcast Design Matters. Mo is the managing partner of Dinner Gallery (formerly VICTORI + MO).
