Breanna Yosmamaovich and Robin Goodwin of American Legion Post 242 Auxiliary present the Poppy Queen of 2021, 5-year-old Avery Palmer. The poppy has been a symbol for the American Legion since World War I, when Canadian physician Lt. Col. John McCrae, spotted red poppies among the graves after a friend was killed in a frontline battle. McCrae wrote the poem “In Flanders Fields.”
