Hilltown officer faces additional child pornography charges

The Hilltown police officer arrested in May on charges of child pornography is facing more than 1,000 additional felony charges after further investigation found more details of his alleged activities, according to investigators.
Matthew Reiss, 47, who lives in Upper Hanover Township in Montgomery County, was initially charged with 10 counts of child pornography for images and videos on his computer showing sexual abuse of children under the age of 13.
On July 16, Montgomery County prosecutors filed approximately 1,700 more charges against Reiss based on discovery of images and video files of infant and prepubescent sexual abuse.

The investigation began in April, after police were notified that the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children had received an anonymous tip.
Reiss, an 18-year member of the Hilltown police department, has been on unpaid leave since his arrest. He was released on $10,000 unsecured bail in May. Prosecutors had requested $100,000 bail.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 2.
