Guadalupana Torch Procession visits Lambertville

Posted

A group of 140 pilgrims processed through the streets of Lambertville, N.J., Dec. 6, carrying a torch and the images of Our Lady of Guadalupe and Saint Juan Diego.

Beginning at the north end of the city, the procession traveled to St. John the Evangelist Church. The Rev. Robert Kolakowski celebrated a Mass honoring Our Lady of Guadalupe, which featured music by a select group.

The Mass was followed by a performance by the Aztec dance group, Danza Aztega del Anahuac, and a buffet in the parish hall.

The lit torch originated in Mexico at the Basilica of Guadalupe and will pass through American cities where migrant families live. They touch the torch as it passes so that when the torch returns to Mexico, their relatives can touch it, completing the cycle.
