Dog prom raises funds for pets in need

Posted

Holiday House Pet Resort & Training Center held its annual Dog Prom last month. Clients of the dog day care donated to the organization as part of the fundraising event for Animal Care PA, which received $3,000.
Animal Care PA is the charitable foundation of the Pennsylvania Veterinary Medical Association. Its mission is to provide support to animals in need and to educate pet parents and veterinary students.
“Animal Care PA is grateful for Holiday House Pet Resort & Training Center’s generosity for choosing us as their charity of choice for their Dog Prom. Their benevolence comes at a very crucial time for our programs. Spending for our programs has increased by 55%, while donations fell by more than 62%, leaving our programs at risk of not continuing without their support,” said Jennifer A. Keeler, Animal Care PA executive director.

The foundation has three community-based animal welfare initiatives: feed, care and educate. Henry’s Helping Paws provides food to pets of senior citizens. The Last Chance (TLC) program provides veterinary care grants to ensure animals in need receive medical care. The Veterinary Student Scholarship program supports veterinary students with financial needs.
For the dog prom, the resort day care was transformed into a medieval castle with a royal festival. Knights, princesses and court jesters had official portraits taken. Throughout the afternoon they participated in enrichment activities with flirt poles and hoops. At the end of the event, the dogs and the pet parents received gourmet biscuits.
