Council Rock teen selected for ACLU summer program

Posted

Council Rock North rising junior Chloe Howes has been selected to participate in the 2021 ACLU National Advocacy Institute’s High School Program.
In the weeklong program, students from around the country will learn from lawyers, lobbyists, community activists and other experts about their work on civil rights and civil liberties issues. Students will gain experience working in areas critical to a free and open society, such as issue advocacy, legal strategy and political decision making. They’ll participate in classroom sessions, lectures and policy debates.
This ACLU virtual summer experience is focused on students who demonstrate a keen interest in social justice and civil liberties. Howes’ essays for the application process highlighted their passion for improving the rights, experiences and treatment of neurodiverse individuals, those with mental health and learning disabilities, and the LGBTQ+ community.

Howes’ application was supported by a letter of recommendation from Council Rock North teacher Bernadette Dodd.
