United Way of Bucks County secured an additional $25,000 for hunger relief thanks to a community-wide effort to unlock a challenge gift.
When local couple Simon and Jane Hallett challenged the nonprofit to obtain 250 donations for Bucks Knocks Out Hunger, United Way’s hunger-fighting event, UW called on friends and neighbors to help. The nonprofit exceeded its goal by the July 5 deadline, securing 256 donations and unlocking the Hallett’s $25,000 gift.
United Way also surpassed its fundraising goal of $110,000 for the event, bringing in a total of $133,260. The funds will help with food assistance throughout the county, which is experiencing increased need as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. As in previous years, United Way will prioritize access to healthy foods, including locally grown produce.
