Bucks Foodshed Summer Farm Tours begin at Trauger’s

Posted

Bucks County Foodshed Alliance and Buy Fresh Buy Local Bucks County announce the 2021 series of farm evenings that introduce consumers to the local small-scale producers who put the freshest foods onto area tables via direct sales, community-supported agriculture operations (CSAs), farmers markets, farm stands, and other venues.

The farm evenings include an optional family picnic and socially distanced tour of the farm. There will be no potluck meal this year due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The 2021 series opens Wednesday, June 2, with a visit to Trauger’s Farm Market, 370 Island Road, Kintersville. While the tour is free, donations to offset BCFA’s costs are appreciated.
Trauger’s Farm is a 60-acre, family-owned and operated fruit and vegetable farm. Open year-round, the store carries its (and other) fresh produce, as well as bulk goods, baking supplies, milk, bread and more. Visit daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends. Look for fun family farm events in the summer and fall.

In lieu of the traditional farm-to-table potlucks, BCFA invites families and small groups to enjoy a picnic meal at 6 p.m. on the farm. Bring your own meal, drinks, plates, cutlery and seating. The evening’s farm tour will begin promptly at 7 p.m.

The educational and entertaining event is appropriate for children of all ages who are under an adult’s supervision. Wear appropriate footwear for the farm. Face masks are required for the tour and social distancing of at least 6 feet is requested for everyone’s safety.

The series continues with two more summer farm tours: Spring Creek Farm, 6262 Meetinghouse Road, Solebury, on Wednesday, July 7; and Hundred Fruit Farm, 1744 Holicong Road, New Hope, on Wednesday, Aug. 4. Both tours are at 7 p.m., with picnics at 6 p.m.

Spring Creek Farm employs regenerative agriculture to enrich the soils and uses livestock rotation, cover crops, compost and minimal tillage. The farm grows Certified Organic vegetables, grass-fed pastured beef, and Certified Organic pastured eggs.
Hundred Fruit Farm is a 10-acre permaculture farm that uses only regenerative farming methods. The farm grows a wide variety of fruits, berries, vegetables, mushrooms, pastured eggs and a flock of Babydoll Southdown sheep. Hundred Fruit Farm also offers permaculture design courses.
