Bucks County Audubon Society plans butterfly events

Posted

Bucks County Audubon Society hosts several programs on butterflies this summer.
Two are virtual and one is in person. The first program, “All About Butterflies,” a virtual presentation by Barbara Beck, is set for 7 p.m. July 8.
“Come on a journey with me to the mountains west of Mexico City where we’ll visit the overwintering Monarchs,” Beck said. “It is a magical place. Learn about Monarch migration, their time in Mexico, conservation efforts, their importance to Mexican culture, and what you can do to help support Monarch populations.”
Admission is free, but donations are appreciated. The Zoom link will be emailed to those who register at BCAS.org.
The second virtual program, “Beautiful Butterflies: North American Butterfly Count,” is set for 7 p.m. July 22.

It is an introduction to the North American Butterfly Count, the importance of pollinators, and some identification tips for local butterfly species. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.
Join in person, at noon July 24,for a walk to count butterflies. Participants will search BCAS’s gardens, meadows and fields for various local butterfly species for the count. Dress accordingly and bring water. Masks are required.
Registration is $3, and proceeds benefit the North American Butterfly Association; however donations to Bucks Audubon are appreciated.
BCAS is located at 2877 Creamery Road, New Hope (Solebury Township). For details, or to register, visit BCAS.org.
