Activists organize online summit for Women’s History Month

Posted

A virtual summit celebrating Women’s History Month called “Passion, Perseverance, and Power: Uplifting Women’s and Girls’ Voices” took place on March 31.

The event was organized by Youth 4 Unity, a student-led activist organization, and The Rainbow Room, a Planned Parenthood program in Doylestown. The leaders hosted a virtual event that celebrated and recognized the strength and perseverance of all women.

“Throughout Women’s History Month, it is important to remember to reflect on the beauty, strength, and intelligence of women,” said one of the event’s leaders. “We hope that our event will help educate the community on what women have accomplished throughout history and what women continue to accomplish.”

During the virtual summit, activists also highlighted current events and thoughts about sexism’s effect on women’s safety. Specifically, they discussed women who were/are influential in advocating for women’s rights, the danger of sexism, the #MeToo Movement, and – as the event was scheduled on Transgender Day of Visibility – the validity of transgender women.

Event speakers discussed the hardships and triumphs of being a woman. In an open dialogue, community members were encouraged to share their personal experiences and the best ways to be an ally.
