Rams claim epic five-setter

Pennridge boys’ volleyball won an exciting five-set match, 3-2 (25-12, 25-22, 26-28, 21-25, 15-10), Tuesday at CB West. The Rams concluded their regular season 13-3 in conference play. Against the Bucks, Christian Lizana had 21 digs and two aces. He was assisted by: Alex Vellner, 14 kills, six blocks; Evan Jacoby, 13 kills, seven digs; Mike Bollinger, eight kills, seven blocks; Devon Rice, 10 kills, 12 digs; Henry Savage, six kills, five blocks; and Matt Ziegler, 44 assists.

Boys’ volleyball blitzes Upper Dublin

Pennridge boys’ volleyball dropped Upper Dublin, 3-0 (25-13, 25-15, 25-13), Monday. Evan Jacoby (eight kills, seven digs), Devon Rice (six kills, five digs, three aces), Henry Savage (six kills, five blocks), Alex Vellner (five kills, two blocks) and Vince Kauders (four kills) led the offensive attack for the Rams. Kolby Smith had three aces, and Matt Ziegler dished out 27 assists.

Boys’ volleyball falls in quarters

Pennridge boys’ volleyball lost in the quarterfinals of the Dallastown Tournament to Christopher Dock, 15-12, 16-14, Saturday. Earlier, the Rams went 4-0 in pool play, knocking off West York (30-13), Carlisle (30-20), Spring Grove (30-21) and Penn Manor (30-27). They downed New Oxford (15-10, 15-11) in the play-in round and Red Lion (15-10, 16-14) in the first round to advance. Christian Lizana (33 digs), Matt Ziegler (49 assists), Mike Bollinger (16 kills) and Devon Rice (15 kills, nine digs, three aces) led the way for Pennridge. Boys’ track performs well at Relays

Pennridge boys’ track turned in a solid performance Friday and Saturday at the Penn Relays. On Friday, the 4x100 relay (John Kim, Nick Stenderowicz, Colby Trauger, Mike Class) won its heat in 43.09. Joey Logue completed the mile in 4:18.63. And on Saturday, the 4x400 team of Logue, Kim, Class and Stenderowicz took the Suburban One National race in 3:17.55 and was second in the Greater Philadelphia Area Championship in 3:18.85.

Pennridge boys’ volleyball started slow but rebounded to down Central Bucks East, 3-1 (24-26, 25-15, 25-16, 25-17), Tuesday. Devon Rice and Evan Jacoby led the Rams with 16 and 15 kills, respectively. Matt Ziegler had 35 assists and two aces. Mike Bollinger led the block parade with six, Alex Vellner had five and Henry Savage added three. Libero Christian Lizana registered 19 digs. For the Patriots, Nick Bennett amassed 13 kills, two blocks and six digs. Kyle Dolf added 10 kills and 14 assists, while Trevor Clemens had three kills and 13 assists.

Rams named All-Americans

The Pennridge boys’ 4x400 relay competed in the New Balance Indoor National Meet at the Armory in New York Sunday and placed second to become All-Americans. The team of Joey Logue, John Kim, Mike Class and Nick Stenderowicz ran a time of 3:17.10, which was more than 2 seconds faster than the time they ran to win the Pennsylvania State Indoor Championships two weeks ago. Their time is No. 1 in the state and No. 2 in the nation this year and is third all-time in Pennsylvania.

Boys' 4x400 strikes gold

The Pennridge boys’ indoor track and field team captured the third-place trophy at the Pennsylvania Indoor State Track and Field Meet at Penn State on Saturday, finishing behind Bensalem and Garnet Valley. The 4x400 team of Joey Logue, John Kim, Mike Class and Nick Stenderowicz won the gold medal in a new school record of 3:19.47. Stenderowicz won the silver medal by finishing second in the 400 with a time of 48.79. The 4x200 team of Stenderowicz, Kim, Colby Trauger and Class also took silver in 1:29.87. Both Stenderowicz in the 400 and the 4x200 set new school records. Logue took fourth in the 800 with a time of 1:53.73, which was also a new school record.

Boys’ hoops end campaign with loss

Pennridge boys’ basketball ended its season with a 9-13 overall mark (4-10 SOL Continental) after falling at North Penn, 72-56, Thursday. The Rams were outscored, 19-5, in the first quarter. Alex Krivda led the way for Pennridge with 21 points. Shane Schmidt netted 11, while Zach Muredda and Jeff Garner each added 10 points.

Drew Dietterich joined Garner in double-figures with 13. Pennridge shot 12-for-15 from the line and hit eight threes. Mark Repsher led Quakertown with 17 points; he also hit five three-pointers. John Smith had 7. The Rams improved to 9-8 overall; the Panthers fell to 3-14.

The Rams outscored the Patriots, 15-8, in the fourth quarter after CB East led at the half, 19-12. Jeff Garner and Pat McClatchy each netted 8 for Pennridge. Central Bucks West boys’ basketball used a 42-21 second half to rout Pennridge, 66-42, Friday. Jared Kelly knocked down five three-pointers for his team-leading 17 points to pace the Bucks. Cal Reichwein was a sliver behind, with 16 points, on four three-pointers. CB West shot 8-for-11 from the free throw line. Alex Krivda and Jeff Garner managed 10 points apiece to lead the Rams. Pennridge shot 5-for-8 from the charity stripe.

Boys’ basketball blown out by Hatboro

Hatboro-Horsham led 44-18 at the half and never looked back on its way to a 77-45 victory Friday night against Pennridge boys’ basketball. Alex Krivda had 13 to lead the Rams. Jeff Garner added 11, including three three-pointers. Pennridge fell to 3-4 and 1-2 in the Suburban One Continental. The Rams will be back in action on Dec. 27 at 4:30 p.m. vs. Governor Mifflin at the Boyertown Christmas Tournament.

Boys’ basketball hangs on to drop Dock

Pennridge boys’ basketball survived a 32-point Christopher Dock fourth quarter Wednesday to post a 60-55 win. The Pioneers held an 18-17 lead at the half, but the Rams stepped it up in the third quarter, taking the frame, 22-5. Zach Muredda and Drew Dietterich paced the Rams with 19 and 14 points, respectively. Pennridge (3-3) will travel to Hatboro-Horsham on Friday.

Pennridge boys’ basketball lost the first quarter, 17-6, and eventually the game Friday night, 51-41, at Central Bucks South. Jeff Garner and Alex Krivda each dumped in 10 points for the Rams. Zach Muredda had 9 points and two three-pointers. Drew Dietterich contributed 7 points. Pennridge fell to 1-3 on the season and 0-1 in the SOL Continental.

Boys’ basketball finishes second

Rams slow down mighty Titans

Pennridge football held down an explosive Central Bucks South offense and junior tailback Mike Class had 223 yards on the ground and two total touchdowns as the Rams defeated the Titans, 21-10, Friday night. The Pennridge defense held standout tailback Josh Adams to 121 yards on 25 carries and kept the sophomore sensation out of the end zone. CB South’s lone touchdown came in the second quarter, an 8-yard connection between QB John Pileggi and receiver Paul Weeks. Rams signal-caller Alex Krivda threw a first-quarter TD pass to Class from 30 yards out.

Rams win on Senior Night over Panthers

Pennridge girls’ soccer celebrated Senior Night with a 3-0 victory over rival Quakertown Tuesday. Brooke Souder broke a scoreless tie in the 38th minute, finishing a cross from Megan Shenk. Shannon Chynoweth scored 8 minutes into the second half on a ball from Marissa Sheva, and Natalia Pinkney ended the scoring 8 minutes later. Pennridge (9-0-3) was led by Chynoweth, Pinkney, Shenk, Carly Henry, Jeannie Jasinski, Caitlyn Sheva, Madison Iverson, Shannon Basquill and Danielle Felicione. Quakertown Invitational results

Quakertown High held its annual invitational girls’ volleyball tournament on Saturday. The host Panthers finished 3-5 in Pool A, which was won by Pennridge (5-3). The Rams lost in the quarterfinal round to CB South, which carried a 5-3 record in Pool B. The Titans lost in the semifinals to eventual runner-up William Tennent. CB East went 7-1 in Pool C. The Patriots lost to eventual champion Brandywine in the semifinals.

Jess Tennett scored a pair of goals for the Rams, while Jess Csaszar, Kyra Preston and Ben Van Pelt added single goals. Emma McLaughlin and Josh Schwarz connected for the Panthers. Natasha Nagle stopped three shots on goal for Pennridge; Maddie Calder was credited with 17 saves for Quakertown.

Golf takes third in tri-match

Pennridge golf (227) finished third behind Souderton (204) and CB West (214) Thursday at Indian Valley Country Club. For the Rams, Jessie Herb and Colton Pifer each scored a round of 43. A.J. Molettiere was third with a round of 45. For the Bucks, Tyler Sokolis (38), Sean Ebert (40) and Troy Thieroff (41) led the way.

Girls’ soccer fit to be tied

Central Bucks South and Pennridge girls’ soccer tied, 2-2, Thursday evening. Sophomore Marissa Sheva scored first for the Rams in the 9 th minute. Titans senior Taylor Matsinger knotted the game at 1-1 at halftime with a beautiful floater from about 30 yards out in the 31 st minute. In the second half, Pennridge senior Megan Shenk, on a cross from Natalia Pinkney, scored what appeared to be the game-winner in the 76 th minute, but CB South senior Kendall Brodie headed in the equalizer a bit more than a minute later, on a pretty corner kick from Matsinger, to force overtime. Neither team was able to generate much offense in the two, 10-minute extra sessions, so both squads were awarded a tie.

Girls’ water polo rips Muhlenberg

Pennridge girls’ water polo routed Muhlenberg, 13-4, Tuesday. The Rams offense was led by Victoria Redmond with four goals, Maggie Walker with three goals and Kayla Muredda with two goals. Julia Nadovich and Jackie Cios led the team in assists with three each. Morgan Allison led the way on defense with two steals and one field block. Nadovich blocked 13 shots on goal for the Rams, who will host Wissahickon on Sept. 11.

Moyer propels field hockey in OT

Melissa Herd assisted Kari Moyer on the game-winner in overtime as Pennridge field hockey won its opener Friday at Upper Merion, 3-2. Jess Tennett scored both Ram goals in regulation; the second was assisted by Herd. Sarah Seiler had 11 saves in regulation and another in OT for Pennridge. Upper Merion’s Devyn Antonucci had 10 saves total.

Boys’ water polo wins opener

Pennridge boys’ water polo nipped Malvern Prep, 9-8, Friday. Senior Mike Lawson led the Rams with three goals and five steals. Freshman Nick Spehar added a goal, four steals and two kickouts drawn. The other goals were scored by Josh Apple, Jon Spehar, Connor Longo, David Zurmuhl and sophomore D.J. Maurone. The Rams will be on the road for their second game of the season on Tuesday, Sept. 4, when they will face the Mules of Muhlenberg High School, Berks County.
