Central Jersey Jazz Festival opens in Flemington

The annual Central Jersey Jazz Festival kicks off its three-day run in Flemington, N.J., the capital of Hunterdon County, on Friday, Sept. 15.

Musicians will perform from 6 to 10 p.m. on the steps of Flemington’s historic county courthouse, at 75 Main St.

The lineup includes Jeff “Tain” Watts, a three-time Grammy winner and former musician on the “Tonight Show” with Jay Leno; Lezlie Harrison, a singer and regular curator and presenter on the jazz station WBGO; and Willie Martinez, a Latin jazz drummer who has performed at Carnegie Hall and with Jewel, Faith Hill and Brandy.

The Jazz House Kids, the only community arts organization in New Jersey exclusively dedicated to educating children through jazz, will also perform.

The emcee for the event is Sheila Elaine Anderson, host of Weekend Jazz After Hours and Salon Sessions on jazz station WBGO, and author of three books.

Restaurants will offer special menus and outdoor seating, and there will be food trucks, a beer and wine garden sponsored by Unity Bank, and special offerings from retailers, artists and more.

The Flemington Community Partnership is the lead sponsor of the Flemington event.

The festival continues on Saturday in New Brunswick and Sunday in Somerville. Visit centraljerseyjazzfestival.com for details.
