St. Mary nurses earn poster honors

Registered nurse Missy Halligan, St. Mary Medical Center clinical simulation coordinator, accepts first place for St. Mary’s poster at the 2017 International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning Conference.

Two clinical nurse simulation specialists at St. Mary Medical Center earned first place for a poster presentation on June 23 in Washington, D.C., at the 2017 International Nursing Association of Clinical Simulation and Learning Conference (INACSL).

Registered nurse Missy Halligan and Ruth Crothers, Ph.D., wrote the poster and gave the presentation at the conference. The poster topic and presentation highlighted St. Mary’s commitment to onboarding new graduate nurses using clinical simulation techniques.

“Clinical simulation is the best way for nurses to learn about patient safety,” said Monica Lozaga, St. Mary director of organizational development. “Simulating clinical issues in a realistic setting helps our nurses identify practice gaps that we can mitigate to prevent adverse events from happening with real patients. I am proud of these nurses for writing and presenting this poster.”

The INACSL Conference is a leading forum for nurse educators, researchers, nurse managers and staff development professionals. It provides the ideal environment to disseminate and gain current knowledge in the areas of skills/simulation lab management and simulation enhanced education.
