Phillips’ Mill Drama Committee presents “Writer’s Block”

Sitting from left are Nyi Lunsford, Mary Saile, Susan Pilon and Nancy Vander Zwan; and standing from left are Paul Frank, Harry Hazman, Chris Canaan and Rick Goodwin.

The Drama Committee of Phillips’ Mill presents the first staged production of Emmy Award-winning playwright Chris Canaan’s “Writers Block,” July 13 and 14.

“Writers Block: An Absurd Comedy with Lofty Ambitions,” is a madcap romp through the quirky but tortured mind of a writer who is plagued by the specter that deep down he is shallow.

His inability to resolve his play – or his life – twist, turn, crash and burn until he literally becomes a prisoner of his own dysfunctional imagination. With the help of his wife and his muse, he realizes the only true resolution comes from the heart and not the mind.

Canaan is an Emmy Award-winning writer and producer transplant from Los Angeles. Now living with his wife in New Hope, he is devoting his time to teaching and writing plays for theater.

Holding a masters’ degree from the University of California San Diego, his credits include writing and producing movies and mini-series for CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX, Showtime, Hallmark and Starz Encore. He won an Emmy with Michael Mann for the mini series “Drug Wars: The Camarena Story,” wrote for the 1990s series “Walker, Texas Ranger” and wrote the movie “Little Girl Lost: The Delimar Vera Story.”

Enjoy a complimentary glass of wine and meet the writer, Canaan, director Harry Kazman and the cast after the performance.

Doors open 7:30, with performances at 8 p.m. July 13 and 14. There is theater-style seating, with no reserved seats. No tickets will be sent. A reservation list will be held at door. Reserve at phillipsmill.org. Admission is $20, or $15 for students.
