Buckingham Friends hosts Quakerism 101 workshop

Buckingham Friends School (BFS) will offer a Quakerism 101 Workshop for parents, prospective parents, faculty, staff and community members 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15.

It will take place in the Buckingham Friends Meetinghouse at 5684 York Road, Lahaska. Childcare for ages 5 and up will be provided.

Zachary Dutton, associate secretary for program and religious Life for Philadelphia Yearly Meeting (PYM), will lead the workshop. Zachary has spent 15 years building effective teams, designing and implementing strategic plans, and teaching about spirituality, diversity and inclusion.

He graduated from Wilmington Friends School where he currently serves as a trustee, from Haverford College where he currently serves as a member of their corporation and its advisory committee, and from Harvard Divinity School where he studied Quakerism. He is a member of Central Philadelphia Monthly Meeting. Since 2010, he has developed and led Quakerism 101 workshops for monthly meetings across the United States and at PYM Annual Sessions and the Friends General Conference annual Gathering.

Dutton will lead participants in several exercises to explore what it means that BFS is a Friends school and how Quakerism’s central beliefs or testimonies manifest themselves in the day-to-day life of school. There will be an opportunity to ask questions. The program is designed to be of special interest to parents who are new to Friends education and Quakerism.
