The District One playoff seeding meeting is scheduled for May 8. Twelve of the 23 3A teams will advance to playoffs and vie for one of three PIAA slots.
And the playoff race is wide open.
To show the parity in the SOL, at press time four area teams were bunched nine through 12 in the district power rankings: Council Rock North, William Tennent, Central Bucks East and then Central Bucks West.
Pennridge (10-1) does not need to worry about advancing to the postseason. The Rams beat second-place Upper Dublin 3-1 last Thursday in the SOL American’s game of the week. Bryce Ammon had 22 kills and a pair of aces. Logan Jalosinski added a dozen kills and six aces to help top the Flying Cardinals.
The Rams turned around and hosted defending state champion Parkland the next night. The Trojans won the yardstick game in straight sets (25-21, 25-16, 25-21). Ammon had 14 kills and three blocks. Pennridge (10-1, 9-0 SOL) got back on track in Tuesday night’s 3-1 win against North Penn.
In a Tuesday night SOL National clash, the Council Rocks met in Newtown with North (5-3, 5-2 SOL) beating South (1-12, 1-8 SOL) 3-0 for the Indians’ third win in a row.
CR North beat Tennent (6-4, 5-4 SOL) 3-2 on April 16 and beat Abington 3-0 two nights later as the Indians start to separate themselves from the pack.
After a nonconference loss to Southern Lehigh on April 8, CB East (8-4, 7-2 SOL) has won five in a row, including two five-set matches against archrivals CB West and Central Bucks South. East’s latest victim was Souderton, who hosted a 3-2 loss to the Patriots on Tuesday. Derek Stefanowicz and Everett Self both had double-doubles (kills and digs).
In the first four games of East’s streak, Reid Miller averaged over 13 kills and three blocks. Evan Blank stepped up to record a double-double (kills and digs) against both CB schools.
In two games to keep an eye on this week, CR North heads to second-place Bensalem on Friday and Pennridge hosts CB East next Tuesday. The home team would be favored but the road team could pick up some critical power points with a win.
