New brew pub opens in Doylestown

Posted

Artifact Brewing opened its doors and beer taps Friday in Doylestown Borough, the company’s second location in the area.

Two friends — Ryan McKinney and Matt Brzowski — are partners in the business that took over and transformed the former PA Wine and Spirits store at 19 W. Court St. last winter.

With 16 taps, the owners promise “an ever-changing selection of beer styles and flavors to ensure that new options are always available for our customers,” according to the company’s website.

Inside the black-painted doors, visitors find a spacious tasting room and expansive bar, as well as high-top seating. A 900-square-foot brewing operation is in the rear of the building.

Handmade Moravian tiles from The TileWorks of Bucks County are featured along the pub’s walls. Katia McGuirk, executive director of the historic living museum, said the tiles “connect the past and present through storytelling."

“Drinch-hael, drink well.”

A garage-style door, also black, faces the street and can be raised to an outdoor seating area where Kyle Gaughan and his girlfriend Kayla Herrick sipped on beers during the crowded grand opening.

“We’re very excited to have some craft beer, locally brewed,” said Gaughan, who lives in the borough. “It’s a refreshing change.”

Mike Brady agreed. “It’s a welcome addition to town,” he said.

“Have beer, people will come,” he joked.

While Artifact does not offer food, customers are welcome to bring food from the town’s nearby restaurants.

The borough now boasts three breweries, including Artifact.

Artifact’s second location in Hatboro is about half the size of the Doylestown business.
