Hats off to the Central Bucks West girls lacrosse team.
Bella Schrandt, Kamryn Brownlow and Katie Casale all scored hat tricks – with Schrandt and Casale tallying four goals each – Tuesday night in Doylestown as CB West dominated rival Central Bucks East 16-3.
“I think it was a great night for a crosstown rivalry,” Schrandt shared. “We all worked really well together and took care of it.”
Grace Naylor and Chloe Schrandt scored twice each with Aida Ierubino rounding out the Bucks’ scoring. The Patriots received two goals from Natalie Berndt and a third from Paige Dougherty.
Every single CB West goal was recorded by an underclassman, boding well for CB West not just for this spring but for next.
“We have a lot of young talent on this team,” Schrant noted. “I feel like this year, we’ve been able to really put a lot of different people into their strengths.”
West raced to a 4-0 lead, with Casale scoring twice and assisting on a third goal. Berndt’s penalty shot got East on the board with 3:13 left in the first, but West responded with seven unanswered goals to close the half. West goalie Kalena Mandeville, who has verbaled to Syracuse, stopped two East penalty shots to keep the score at 3.
“We all worked together and were communicating as a unit,” echoed defender Naylor. “We didn’t let them get by.”
Casale got the first Bucks hat trick, on a Bella Schrandt assist, with 55 seconds left in the half. Brownlow got hers at the buzzer to put West up 11-1 at the break.
The Patriots (6-4, 3-1 SOL) brought a four-game win streak into War Memorial. Berndt scored at least two goals in all four wins, nicely complementing Dougherty, who averaged nearly five goals per game during the run.
East beat Bensalem 13-7 and Neshaminy 16-6 in SOL National crossover games on consecutive days just prior to Tuesday. Dougherty’s six goals paced the Patriots against Bensalem while Cece Hayes’ four scores were the game high against Neshaminy.
The Bucks (8-2, 4-2 SOL), who are a pair of two-goal losses away from being unbeaten, won their fourth straight game and third consecutive SOL contest. CB West beat Council Rock South 16-10 and Council Rock North 11-8 prior to shutting down Gwynedd Mercy 8-2. Bella Schrandt had 13 goals in the three SOL wins.
“I think we’re using each more and working well as a team instead of individually,” Naylor said.
West traveled to Bensalem late Wednesday and then hosts Abington on Friday. East turned right around and hosted another sister school – Central Bucks South – late Wednesday before heading to North Penn on Friday.
