Having emerged unscathed from uncontested primaries last week, two-term incumbent PA Rep. Shelby Labs and Eleanor Breslin, the current chairwoman of the Tinicum Township Board of Supervisors, are gearing up for a General Election showdown in the PA House’s 143rd District.
“It’s an honor to receive so much support from friends and neighbors here in Central and Upper Bucks County,” Labs, a Republican, said in a statement when she announced her re-election bid. “My family has lived, worked, and built a life in this community for generations. This is a truly special place to call home, and I am proud to be your voice in Harrisburg.”
Breslin has served on the Tinicum board since 2022, becoming its chair at the start of the year.
Asked how she will juggle her current board responsibilities with those of a strenuous campaign cycle, Breslin said she’d take a 50% leave of absence from her day job as an attorney for a statewide nonprofit health advocacy organization.
Breslin, the first woman to lead Tinicum’s board of supervisors, was asked why she’s running for a state office now.
“Since 2022, over three special elections, the Democratic state majority has been hanging in the balance and it needs to be deeper,” Breslin said. “I would hope Tinicum residents would be thrilled to have a strong, hands-on ally positioned in the state house.”
Breslin said she’d be an accessible, visible player to whatever constituency she serves.
“People across Tinicum know me, they have my cell phone number, they know I’m available to them across all sorts of issues in all corners of this township,” she said.
In her recent announcement, Labs stated she is running once again based on her achievements over two terms as state representative. Labs listed among her priorities promoting public safety, supporting small businesses, acting as an ally for law enforcement and first responders, ensuring public school funding and working to expand access to affordable healthcare.
Gearing up for another campaign, Labs sounded excited. “We have achieved so much together, but the job is not done. I look forward to what we will continue to accomplish, and I can’t wait to see you all on the campaign trail!”
Republicans hold a nearly 6,200 voter advantage over Democrats in the 143rd, according to the PA Department of State.
The district includes Plumstead, Tinicum, Bedminster, Hilltown and a portion of New Britain Township. It also includes the boroughs of Dublin, Perkasie, Sellersville and Silverdale.
