The LCA Winter Concert Series was such a big hit that a free concert has been added for Friday, May 3, at the Richardson House in Langhorne. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Music and awards begin at 7 p.m.
Because LCA is awarding scholarships to two music students from Neshaminy School District that evening, entertainment will be provided by two talented Neshaminy grads who are making a good living in music and living a good life in Langhorne Borough. Light refreshments will be served. Keith Goodwin and Gregg Mervine, both from Langhorne, have followed their music across the globe.
Goodwin was the vocalist of Days Away, a Neshaminy emo rock band that went from high school to Los Angeles, where the band recorded and toured for years. Goodwin then founded the alt folk trio Good Old War in 2008. The trio recorded four albums, toured with Brandi Carlisle and the National, and its songs have been featured on TV dramas and commercials.
Recently, Goodwin has been touring with Circa Survive and The Sound of Animals Fighting, and producing records for other groups often enlisting the arranging, instrumental, and mixing talents of his neighbor, Gregg Mervine.
Post-Neshaminy, Mervine studied music and philosophy at University of the Arts and Temple University in Philadelphia, and then embedded himself in the Anarcho-Bohemian enclave of West Philadelphia. He played in numerous scrappy rock bands and avant jazz groups, and ended up touring Europe with King Django and Ari Up (of the Slits).
In 2006, he started a brass band, West Philly Orchestra, which still thrives today. He also composed music for theater, and he has a solo project under the moniker ‘g. mervine.’ He lived in Brazil from 2010 to 2016, where he studied folkloric music and began experimenting with electronic music. He returned to Langhorne in 2016.
The music Goodwin and Mervine will perform on May 3 will be mostly acoustic and will include original compositions and some cover tunes. This will be their first live performance in Langhorne.
